A suspect has been identified in connection to a recent burglary in which a woman posed as a firefighter to scam an unsuspecting resident.
The burglary occurred March 26 around 7:30 p.m. at 76-year-old Patricia Forrest's residence. According to police reports, Forrest received a phone call from a woman under the guise of a firefighter, who informed her of a reported gas leak in the area. The woman told Forrest to go into her backyard with her dog until the leak had been checked out. Once in her backyard, Forrest was escorted to the street corner while the woman reportedly called the fire chief. While Forrest stood on the corner, one or more people entered her home to commit the burglary. When the woman informed Forrest it was safe to re-enter her home, she found her purse emptied on the floor and her money missing. The theft totaled between $120-$140, but she isn't certain if other items were stolen. Forrest said the suspect gained access to her home by visiting her residence to take her blood pressure. On Friday, she selected a suspect during a photo lineup conducted by the marshal's office, which would not release that person's name. Resident Heidi Doherty, a retirement plans coordinator, was shocked to hear about the recent burglary. "I can only hope that it doesn't happen to anyone else," Doherty said. Tombstone's Fire Chief Jesse Grassman advised citizens to help protect themselves from these types of crimes. "Always verify there is an emergency vehicle present. If you're not sure, contact the marshal's office or the fire department right away." |
