The competition during this past weekend seemed to be over in the blink of an eye.

With 118 contestants from as far east as Kentucky, the Four Corners Fast Draw Association Territorial Championship in Tombstone heralded some of the quickest fast draw competitors in the world.

"The competition worked out just fine this weekend despite the weather," said O.K. Corral owner Bob Love.

Shooters competed throughout Friday and Saturday in the preliminary rounds, striving to qualify for the final round held on Sunday.

The "Magnificent 7" is what the Cowboy Fast Draw Association calls the final competitors of both the men and women's divisions.

While friendships and camaraderie were the big themes throughout the first two days, there's little doubt that winning was on the mind of all the competitors on Sunday.

After the walk through town to the O.K. Corral, with the cheering crowd and flashing cameras, each Magnificent 7 member had looks of focus and concentration on his or her face.

The walk through historic Tombstone was far from a distraction to the finalists, but did prove the seriousness of the competition.

"Being in the O.K. Corral upped the stakes and added a little bit more pressure to the match," said second-place winner Kathy "Cool Hand Suz" Lansdowne from Idaho.

Once all 14 finalists made it into the O.K. Corral, the Magnificent 7 women were first to compete.

Honing in on their two-foot round target just 21 feet away, the shooters did last-second checks of their Colt .45 guns before loading their wax bullets and readying to fire.

Although the woman who won the title for the quickest individual fast draw with a time of .477 seconds did not qualify for the Magnificent 7, due to the best of three points format of the competition, the guns were still blazing fast and the final round came with many surprises.

With times hitting around half a second, the last round got hot.

Nevada's Dinah "Alotta Lead" Elrich breezed through the final until meeting Lansdowne in the last round of elimination, but ultimately prevailed.

Arizona's newbie Karen "Southwest KC" Carr with six months of experience was awarded third place.

"I didn't expect to even make it this far," she said.

After the commotion of the women's competition was over, the men stepped to the line.

Being the seventh seed, Lee "Lawman" Hendricsen of Northern California would have to out shoot each of the other six finalists.

He quickly defeated sixth seed Will "Tawodi" York of California and had no trouble with his next two competitors both from Nevada Cal "Quick Cal" Elrich and Jim "Ol Gun" Stanrich.

After defeating his first three opponents, he moved into third place, and the pressure was on.

"I just tried not to play so many mental games with myself and stayed focused at shooting my shot," said Lawman.

Lawmen then defeated Gary "Buzzard Cooper" Cooper of Idaho, James "Arizona Ranger" Barney and Peter "Cali Thunder" Garibaldi to become the champion of the tournament.

Shortly after winning, Hendricsen said, "It feels awesome, especially since I am pretty new to the sport."

Nothing short of a Cinderella story, Lawman's victory ended the three-day competition with a bang.

"To sum up the weekend, this sport is all about fun and being out in Tombstone for the first time, this Territorial Championship brought the fun," said Cooper.
